Same Sex Marriages

As many of you know on the day of the historical election there was another historical decision made in the State of California with Proposition 8. (Proposition 8 was a California State ballot proposition that amended the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman. It overrode a recent California Supreme Court decision that had recognized same-sex marriage in California as a fundamental right. The official ballot title language for Proposition 8 is "Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry." The entirety of the text to be added to the constitution was: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.") What is your take on this issue?

I am glad that Proposition 8 passed because I believe that marriage should only be between a man and woman. It is against my beliefs for persons of the same sex to be wed in a House of the Lord. However, I am not against civil unions because I believe it to be unfair and in some cases inhumane for certain laws not to be granted to people of the same sex if they are in love (i.e. hospital visits). Many people have argued with me that civil unions and marriage are the exact same thing and that the only difference is the terminology. However, I believe that there is a difference in that people who want to form a union who are of the same sex should not be permitted to do so in a Church.
